PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Workshops
PGA/USGA Workshop registration includes:
- Three full days of instruction with breakfast provided daily.
- Two expert instructors – one from the PGA of America and one from the USGA.
- Access to either the 100-Question or 80-Question Exam on the morning of the fourth day (or online on a date you select from the exam schedule).
- Access to the Virtual Rules School video recordings through the end of May.
- Print copies of the full Rules of Golf and the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf.
- Fee is $500.
Transfers
If you are unable to attend the workshop for which you have registered, you may transfer to another open workshop on the 2023 schedule:
- No charge: Transfers requested prior to the first day of the workshop. This can be done online prior to the registration deadline. After the registration deadline, this can be done by calling 908-326-1850.
- After the workshop has begun, please contact us at 908-326-1850.
If you have contracted COVID-19 or are exhibiting symptoms, please do not enter the classroom. You will be allowed to transfer to another workshop with available seats or receive a full refund. This can only be done by calling (908) 326-1850.
Withdrawals
If you need to withdraw from a workshop (and don’t wish to transfer), you can request a refund as follows:
- $465 refund: Prior to the registration deadline date of the workshop you are withdrawing from. This can be done online.
- $250 refund: After the registration deadline date of the workshop you are withdrawing from and prior to the 1st day of the workshop. This can be done only by calling (908) 326-1850
- After the workshop has begun, no refunds will be offered.

Waiting List
- If a workshop site is fully enrolled, you will be able to add your name to a waiting list.
- If a seat becomes available in that workshop, you will be notified by email.
- If you are enrolled in one workshop (A) and on the waiting list for another (B), and you are notified that a spot has become available in workshop B, you may transfer out of workshop A and into workshop B at no charge. This can only be done by calling (908) 326-1850.
Study Materials
Suggested study materials for this workshop include:
- Virtual Rules School video recordings – These videos contain nearly 20 hours of content covering the full Rules of Golf and are a great resource for workshop and exam preparation.
- The Rules of Golf, effective January 2023 – This is the primary Rules resource for officials. It contains all the playing Rules and definitions of terms used throughout the Rules. It includes numerous explanatory images and diagrams.
- The Official Guide to the Rules of Golf, effective January 2023 – This is a resource that contains information to support committees and officials that supplements the Rules of Golf. It includes: 1) the Rules of Golf, 2) Interpretations that provide guidance in the understanding of terminology and the application of Rules, 3) Committee and administrative procedures, 4) a library of Model Local Rules, 5) information on establishing the terms of the competition, and 6) the Modified Rules of Golf for Players with Disabilities.
- Rules of Golf Mobile App – Free mobile app for iOS and Android devices that includes the full content of the two publications listed above as well as a robust search feature.
- Resources on the USGA Rules Hub (http://www.usga.org/rules) – The USGA Rules Hub website has an array of videos, infographics, papers, charts, answers to FAQs, Rules Quizzes on the 2019 Rules of Golf, and much more.
- GeneralArea.org – A website created by Rules expert Dr. Lewis Blakey. It contains essays on a variety of Rules topics, study aids, Rules quizzes and more. It is available at http://generalarea.org/.

Since 1975, the United States Golf Association and The PGA of America, working together to support the best interests of the game, have offered to the public a series of workshops on the Rules of Golf. These workshops are open to the public and bring together several of the foremost Rules of Golf educators in the game, with the goal of making the Rules accessible to anyone who wishes to learn more about them or sharpen their existing knowledge.
